Dr. Jos? Pi?era, born 1948 in Chile studied Economics at Harvard University, and was appointed Chile's Secretary of Labor and Social Security at the age of 30. He is internationally recognized as the architect of Chile's acclaimed private pension system, which consists of mandated pension programs based on individual capitalization in the social security system. It was copied and successfully introduced by some 28 countries (11 in Latin America, 12 in Central and Eastern Europe and five in other parts of the world). Pi?era advises governments throughout the world on the establishment of personal account retirement systems, is Founder and President of the International Center for Pension Reform in Chile, and distinguished senior fellow at the Cato Institute in Washington (DC). The event is open to the public.
